Kaiser Wilhelm II Fort of Mutzig - Direction Dinsheim-surBruche - Tel: + 33 (0)6 08 84 17 42

In January 1893, the German emperor William II decides to fortify the hill of Mutzig. Together with the fortified belt of Strasbourg, the Feste stands in the French offensive way to protect the Alsace plain wide from the Vosges mountains to the Rhine
This new generation fort is built with concrete armoured and equipped with power stations : this is the prototype of the modern XXth century splited fortification.
7000 men are needed to run this huge defensive ensemble of 628 acres. With its numerous constructions and 22 armoured turrets it is the strongest German fortification in 1914.

The tour leads you through buildings linked by underground galleries for you to discover original troop's quarters and facilities: kitchen, well, bakery, power station and hospital.

Through a visit, you can live the history of that Fort.
