place de la Gare
Website : www.fort-mutzig.eu
OverviewWhen leaving the Tourist Office, turn right in rue St Martin. At the end of the street, turn left and follow the pedestrian way to the stop board. Enter to the right in the cour de la Chartreuse, pass in front of the museum and turn left in the small passage indicating the wine trail (sentier viticole). At the red flashlight, cross rue du General De Gaulle. On the opposite sidewalk, take the small passage to reach rue Ettore Bugatti, there turn left until the end of the street. Go up at right into the Leimenweg (blue easel) and join the water house from where you will have a beautiful view on Molsheim. Continue the path (blue easel) to the rue des vignes in Mutzig in which you will find the original marks for the hikes «On the traces of a giant» will appear (green ring). At chemin de Felsbourg on your right, there are the boards 3 to 7. At the Schiebenberg crossroads, you can walk in a loop, or go straight to the Fort.
For the «Felsbourg» loop, keep left, then right after the bench. There is a small stretch of water visible on your left; this is where materials for the Fort were quarried. Take great care, as the area is not secured and is potentially dangerous; hold children by the hand. Then turn left and continue as far as the «Refuge de la Marine». Magnificent view of the Bruche valley, Dinsheim-sur-Bruche, Mont Sainte-Odile, and the Donon. As you leave the refuge, keep to your right. About a hundred meters beyond the information table you will find yourself back at the bench - you have completed the loop.
Pass in front of the bench, then go straight downhill. Follow the forest path to the edge of the woods, and keep to the right (slight slope). Pass in front of a raised hide, and walk along the edge of the woods - make sure you take the time to admire the panoramic view. Once you are back in the woods, after a few hundred meters, you will come to the chalet of Maréchal De Lattre de Tassigny, who had built it in 1946 and 1947. Carry straight on ; you will reach the car park for the Fort on the edge of the woods. Note that it is strictly forbidden to use the road. To get back to the circular walk, you need to walk back along the last part of the walk, towards the chalet. Walk alongside the edge of the woods again until you reach the path marked with a blue cross. Head straight downhill to a small path alongside the houses on the outskirts of Dinsheim-sur-Bruche. At the end of the street, turn left towards the roundabout. Follow the boulevard Clémenceau straight ahead at the entrance of Mutzig, then cross the whole town (rue du 18 November and rue du Maréchal) to reach the town hall. Go straight ahead, pass under the tower and take the 2nd street left before the bridge: rue des jardiniers and follow the bike path, then take the pedestrian path that runs along the river until it again joins the bike path at the entrance to Molsheim. Leave the trail at the level of the Jesuit church to reach the city center by Notre-Dame street and the church street.
