Natura 2000 à Niederhaslach
The municipality of Niederhaslach is part of a Special Protection Area (SPA) under the Natura 2000 programme. This SPA is located on the Donon-Schneeberg ridges. In this area, a series of forestry measures are planned in a forest stand that provides a favourable and stable habitat for capercaillies. The senescence island in the Niederhaslach communal forest covers an area of 4.93 hectares. The chosen plot provides a typically favourable habitat for capercaillies. It contains large-diameter fir and pine trees, as well as dead wood.
In this Natura 2000 island, the municipality has committed to not carrying out any logging or other work for a period of 30 years. In return, it is compensated for the loss of income by the state and the European Union.
