Exhibition: Under the ocean, Alsace

The Alsatian landscape as we know it today was formed over several million or even billion years.

The astonishing variety of rocks that make up its soil invites us to take a different look at how this landscape of schist, granite, sandstone and limestone was formed.

Landscapes that were sometimes submerged or emerged, climates that were sometimes tropical or arid, followed one another on such an extended timescale that it is a real challenge for our imagination to comprehend.

The exhibition Sous l'océan, l'Alsace (Alsace Under the Ocean) aims to paint a picture of these landscapes by interpreting the study of its rocks and fossils found by generations of geologists, palaeontologists and knowledgeable amateurs.
