The statue of the Virgin is adorned with a blue mantle, hence its name of «Virgin Blue» It is the work of the sculptor Rebel d'Urmatt, at the request of the workers of Niederhaslach who worked at the spinning and weaving factory of the Merigenau «Mullerhof». The monument was therefore erected in 1869 in thanks for the comfort that the Virgin would have brought them. Das Denkmal wurde 1869 errichtet, als Dankeschön für den Trost, den die Jungfrau ihnen gebracht hätte.
