AMARO FREITAS
A percussive piano that bounces off our hearts, a breath of Brazil that carries us away in its frenetic rhythm, such is the power of Amaro Freitas. A native of Recife, pianist Amaro Freitas deploys a percussive, inhabited jazz, blending the legacy of Thelonious Monk with the traditional rhythms of the Nordeste. At the age of 15, he was overwhelmed by a Chick Corea concert, which marked a decisive turning point in his playing. Despite the absence of a piano at home, he worked hard to become one of the leading figures in contemporary Brazilian jazz.
His rich, nuanced playing pays tribute to his origins as much as to the nature that inspires him.

Whatever the style, the accordionist's music, endowed with a rare elegance and lyricism, sweeps wide and hits the mark.
